Primer - Primer application usually takes 2 to 3 coats to evenly cover the entire surface. The process requires each coat to thoroughly dry prior to application of the next.
Sanding - This removes the powdery effect of the primer and smooths out the surface. The vehicle is then wiped down with a thinner to remove the remaining residue, preparing it for the next step.
Top Coat - 3 to 4 coats of this are applied and like the primer, each coat must thoroughly dry prior to applying the next.
Clear Coat - This final coat adds gloss and protection to the color. Usually 1 to 2 coats are applied.
Buffing - Painted surfaces are buffed to even out and smooth the finish resulting in a gleaming shine.
